Silk Demon

Silk Demons are possibly the most well-crafted and concentrated form of ‘deity corruption’ of a mortal being that is realized in the material world.

Created by the will of Arachnea to bring order and purity into the chaos the other Gods saw in the world, and in the imbalance the New Gods created. These beings are driven to improve themselves at anything they do, be it knowledge, a skill, or social relations, they want to achieve perfection, and separate different things into their pure components.

They live together with the Ilthir, who often refer to them as The Reborn, or on the surface, mostly acting as spies for them.

Appearance

In their true form, a Silk Demon appears having a smooth, perfectly-flawless body reminding the one of a dark elf, with some smooth, flawless black or white chitin possibly appearing instead of the skin, as well as a monstrous spider like head, that grants them sometimes the nickname of ‘demon-spiders’. If staying in that form they often dress themselves up with clothes made of their own perfectly smooth and at the same time very resistant silk.

In that form, their voice flows with a melodic rhythm, giving goosebumps as a smooth silky thread passing on the body.

Their human form appears to be having a particularly flawless, perfectly symmetry features, and an utter lack of body hair or other physical flaws.

Behavior

Silk Demons are born only within Dark Elven society and have no need to hide their identity among the Children of Arachnea. These Demons are rarely fighters or other sorts of dangerous occupations as they loathe exposing themselves to activities where they may risk ruining their body or mind.

Regardless of whether they are faithful to The Weaver or to some other deity, their life is based on the insatiable urge to reach perfection in all things. So, their social groups will tend to be tightly compartmentalized, finding themselves at ease only when in groups comprised of singular racial identities, or where roles are very well and tightly established, such as what is typical of Ilthir society where there is a strict divide between Ilthir and non-Ilthir. Male and female. ‘We’ and ‘they’.

An in-depth analysis of their everyday behavior may reveal them close to obsessive with how neatly they would arrange their clothes, furniture, or how clean their house might be, and this orderliness extends to everything within the Demon’s control.

Creation, Purpose, and Training

Silk demons are born as a rare outcome of particularly gruesome Ilthirri rituals, that involve getting a particularly healthy and good looking human female pregnant, then with a surgery or other methods, have her injected with spider eggs, that once hatched will devour her from the inside and burst outside close to the moment of her death. Most often than not the process results just in the death of the host, though in some cases, a blessed Silk Demon is born.

These Demons are nurtured and raised by priests of Arachnea mostly sheltered from the rest of Ilthir society, as if in their human form they may be accidentally mistaken by surfacers and risk being ruined, if not even their lives. The ones between these Demons that somehow try to fight against their nature however do end up trying to escape and hide, though since they are unable to do so in their true form, these few unfortunate souls end up enslaved by their own people.

However, independently from the purpose that Ilthir assign them, the purpose that The Weaver created them for is to fight the corruption and the chaos that the other gods are causing, as they keep meddling with the material world: in particular, via the creation of other demons. The interpretation of this secret will of the goddess, by the Ilthir and the Silken Ones, often results in searches for Demons on the surface, to be either 'purified' (with a ritual, or, more often, simply with death), or to be taken as slaves.

Most of the Silk Demons however do follow the teachings of the Priestesses and their own drives, and once reaching adulthood, they are often accompanied by the Priestesses on their first trip to the surface, where they often live for prolonged time, working to achieve the goal of their goddess. Their purpose during these excursions is to mend the chaos of the outside world more directly, attempting either consciously or subconsciously to tear apart communities they find that have been racially integrated, and attempting to undo this integration by sowing doubt, hate and distrust. Another, often more practical, function of these excursions often is spying upon the communities of the surface races.

Transformation

Silk Demons do have another common goal while on the surface; identifying and isolating individuals possessing remarkable characteristics, physical or mental, and helping them to achieve their fullest potential. This help, however, is typically not at the request of the intended recipient, and generally much to their dismay when it is finally revealed. Regardless, Silk Demons, once their target has been isolated, will bind their victim in a cocoon made up of the Demon’s silken secretions during a dark ritual before hiding them away to incubate.

This process of metamorphosis or forced evolution may take hours or it may take days, but in time the cocoon will hatch and reveal the victim in a new form which is, in the many eyes of Arachnea, superior to the previous. Only the Great Weaver would know the reason behind the new form, but it is typically that of a Ilthir female of flawless complexion and form. Sometimes this metamorphosis results in something unexpected or less than obvious, but in these cases the form always proves to be a better ‘fit’ for the victim’s characteristics.

Their position in mostly outside of the societal hierarchy and it strongly depends if they are 'attached' to either the Church or Civil Authorities.

In the first case, the Silken Ones will typically devote themselves to assisting with religious duties: assisting citizens onto their path to perfection and to steer away from sin and more importantly corruption. In the second case, the Demons are typically focused on espionage and intel related tasks. However, in both cases they are strictly dependent and under both the authority and tutelage of these organizations, since, not being Ilthir themselves, they would otherwise be outside of society. Indeed, until under the 'protection' of either one of these institutions, they have a certain autonomy and they are respected by most, but the fate of Silken Ones that drift away from one of these two positions is certainly slavery.

Some Twice-Born are all too aware of this strange condition of being completely dependent on someone else and on one hand, they start to question themselves and their utility or place in the world, and on the other hand, they try to somehow have their backs covered, in case they might lose the favor of the institution they depend on, either by still trying to gain favor with the other institution, or by trying to get themselves some other powerful friend among nobility or influential rich families.
